Vaudeville, circus show returns to Weyauwega

By Angie Landsverk

An upcoming show at the Gerold Opera House will include music, circus acts, vaudeville and an aerial performance.

Dead Man’s Carnival will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in downtown Weyauwega.

“The main function of the show is to be a live music circus variety show,” said Pinkerton Xyloma.

He is the creative director of Dead Man’s Carnival, which is based out of Milwaukee.

Wega Arts has brought the show to the Gerold several times over the past few years.

“We think it’ll be a great time,” said Kathy Fehl, artistic director of Wega Arts.

Fehl said Xyloma has been “traveling around and picking up inspirations from throughout the country as they tour here and there.”

He said this show will also be a record release show.

Prof Pinkerton’s Irrelevant Orchestra is the name of the show’s house band.

“Antiquated, at best” is the name of its new record.

He said it has been about 10 years since they released a record.

“The band is always there,” Xyloma said. “We will emphasize the music a little more. We will have some novelty instruments.”

He describes their shows as “quirky performance arts disciplines that don’t have many other outlets.”

The typical Dead Man’s Carnival show involves about a dozen people, including the musicians and performers.

“The real anchor is the band,” Xyloma said. “Half of the evening’s music is off the record we’re trying to push.”

The doors of the opera house will open at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11.

There will be a a full cash bar and a light menu for the show.

Reserved seats are $30 in advance for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under.

VIP seats are $40.

At the door, the price is $35 for adults and $12 for children.

Wega Arts is also preparing for its annual international film festival.

That will take place at the Gerold from Nov. 13-16.

“We will have lots of wonderful films from throughout the world,” Fehl said.
