Manawa falls to Amherst

Falcons win Homecoming game against Wolves

By Holly Neumann

It was a showdown in Amherst as the Falcons took on the Manawa Wolves to battle for the top spot in the Central Wisconsin-Large Conference. Amherst came out on top, beating the Wolves 36-7 for a Homecoming victory.

The Falcon got the first score of the game when quarterback Lincoln Cullen scored on a 3-yard run. Mason Czech kicked the extra point giving Amherst a 7-0 lead.

Amherst continued the scoring drive, scoring twice in the second quarter.

Aidan Elwood found the end-zone first and later Cullen connected with Carmelo Aleman.

With Czech kicking the extra points, the Falcons were up 21-0.

With time running down in the first half, Manawa quarterback Mason Wiesner connected with Riley Krenke for a touchdown. Wiesner kicked the extra point putting the score at 21-7.

Amherst got the only score in the third quarter.

On a fourth down, Manawa was ready to punt the ball away, when a bad snap of the ball left Wiesner scrambling, allowing the Falcon defense to tackle him in the end-zone for a safety.

In the final quarter Cullen and Bryan Groshek each made it into the end-zone for the Falcons, giving them the win.

With the win Amherst now stands alone as the only undefeated team in the conference.

Amherst will travel to Iola-Scandinavia on Oct. 11, while Manawa will host Weyauwega-Fremont.
