Wautoma sweeps W-F meet

Wega-Fremont’s Bartel wins girls’ race

Wautoma’s cross country team returned home from the Don Chase Relays i on Oct. 10 with a pair of championships.

The Hornets swept the annual invitational, which also included teams from Weyauwega-Fremont, Manawa, Iola-Scandinavia, Clintonville, Amherst, Berlin, Bonduel, Gresham/Bowler, Marion, Menominee Indian, Tri-County, Westfield and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Team scores for the boys were Wautoma (35), Berlin (96), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (99), Bonduel (108), Clintonville (112), Weyauwega-Fremont (153), Iola-Scandinavia (217), Menominee Indian (217), Amherst (223), Westfield (261), Manawa (286) and Marion (314).

Clintonville’s Jesse Wilson led area runners in the boys’ race, as he placed second in 17:30.3. Other runners for the Truckers included Cameron Mauel (10th, 18:27.4); Cody Carrico (16th, 18:56); Joshua Wilson (40th, 20:01.9); Kyle Tennie (47th, 20:11.1); Brody Prill (52nd, 20:29.7); Casey Ploederl (61st, 20:56.6); and Caedyn Higgins (70th, 21:57.5).

Martin Leyva turned in Weyauwega-Fremont’s fastest time, as he placed 22nd in 19:07.6. Other places and times for the Indians included Josh Halat (26th, 19:20.3); Carson Kester (31st, 19:38.3); Ethan Patzer (37th, 19:54.4); Jacob Carroll (41st, 20:03.6); Logan Krause (51st, 20:23.7); and Isiah Schuh (54th, 20:34.1).

Iola-Scandinavia’s runners included Robert Vater (39th, 19:33.1); Dylan Donovan (35th, 19:48.2); Ian Koss (38th, 19:57.2); Erik Grenlie (48th, 20:13.7); Aaron Jones (80th, 23:56.5); and Brandon Phillips (85th, 26:28.7).

Manawa’s runners included Justin Buschke (46th, 20:10); Zachary Schertz (56th, 20:34.9); Jacob Scheller (65th, 21:24.7); Hunter Schlueter (67th, 21:34.3); Ted Emmert (69th, 21:54.4); and Ethan Tellock (84th, 24:45.7).

Wautoma won the girls’ competition with 43 points, followed by Berlin (62), Bonduel (81), Weyauwega-Fremont (82), Amherst (95), Westfield (169) and Clintonville (174).

Weyauwega-Fremont’s Abby Bartel won the girls’ race in 19:15.9, while other places and times for the Indians included Allison Halat (sixth, 21:56.6); Kaitlyn Monty (17th, 23:11.1); Emma Ziepke (36th, 24:35.9); Anna Bubolz (38th, 24:46.9); Alicia Lederhaus (49th, 26:09.9); and Destiny Kempf (61st, 28:49.1).

Clintonville’s runners included Kayla Klemp (24th, 23:37.1); Jasmine Wilson (29th, 24:04.1); Allison Smejkal (46th, 25:39.1); Magdalena Grassl (54th, 27:17.4); and Katie Lamberies (63rd, 29:01.5).

Iola-Scandinavia’s runners included Briar Williams (41st, 25:17.3); and Tara Thompson (66th, 29:31.1).

Manawa had one runner: Aspen Linjer, who placed 62nd in 28:49.7.
