Some spooky things to do in Waupaca County

The fifth annual Trunk-or-Treat will be held from 3–6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Crosscut Solutions in Manawa.

Area businesses and organizations will meet in the Crosscut Solutions parking lot and pass out candy from their trunks in a child-friendly environment.

Participants are not required to decorate their cars.

“We leave it up to them,” said Nicole Starr, who helps organize the event. “However, area businesses and organizations really get into decorating their trunks and come up with some pretty creative ideas.”

Children should arrive in costume and bring buckets for the candy.

“We invite families to stay for the entire afternoon,” Starr said.

In addition to Trunk-or-Treat, guests may enjoy popcorn and apple cider, take home a balloon from the balloon artist and the children may play Halloween games.

“The No. 1 rule at Trunk-orTreat is to have fun,” she said. “This not only goes for the families who get to take part in the festivities, but also the businesses and their employees who are working to come up with a creative Halloween theme for their trunk.”

There is no admission for the event, but they will collect items for the food pantry.

“We can all play a part in giving back to the community,” Starr said.

Crosscut Solutions is located at E5763 County Trunk B.

Scandinavia

The Fall Spooktacular is from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Jorgens Park Preserve in Scandinavia.

Next to the parking area, the The Friends of Jorgens Park Preserve will host “Trunk or Treat.”

County residents are invited to participate and hande out Halloween treats to area children from of their cars or the back of their trucks.

Children check out the decorated cars as they collect treats.

“Some folks enjoy this over giving out candy at their door,” said Dana Rima, who helps organize the event. “Or they may live in a rural area where they don’t get the opportunity to see the trick-or-treaters.”

In the barn, families can hear spooky stories told by librarian Meredith from the Scandinavia Public Library.

At the picnic pavilion, they can board a wagon for a hay ride and decorate pumpkins to shoot from a catapult by Iola Boy Scouts Troop 631.

The activities are free to the public and open to all children accompanied by a responsible adult.

“We had a lot of fun last year and hope with participation this will continue to be an annual fall event all ages will look forward to,” said Rima.

The event coincides with Scandinavia’s trick or treating, which is from 2–4 p.m. that same day.

Jorgens Park Preserve is located at 880 North Shore Drive, just off State Highway 49 on the north side of Silver Lake in Scandinavia.
