Police seize pot, vape cartridges

Clintonville officers used a battering ram to break down the front door of a home on 12th Street.

Inside they reported finding a marijuana growing and processing operation that occupied several rooms throughout the building.

Brooke L. Schweitzer, 19, Clintonville, is charged with felony manufacture of THC as party to a crime, maintaining a drug trafficking place as party to a crime, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was alone in the house at the time of her arrest, but she denied any involvement with the operation.

According to the criminal complaint, Clintonville officers executed a search warrant of Schweitzer’s home at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.

They found two fully operational homemade greenhouses with ventilation, humidifiers and UV lights.

In the basement, officers reported finding harvested marijuana plants and dried marijuana leaves throughout the residence.

In a bathroom, they found garbage bags laid out on the floor with pot leaves spread out beneath a dehumidifier.

In another bathroom, they found evidence that someone tried to flush some marijuana down the toilet.

In an upstairs bedroom, they found what appeared to be a production site for marijuana wax and vape cartridges containing liquid THC concentrate.

Schweitzer said she used marijuana, but denied being involved in growing or processing the marijuana and THC in the house.

She was released from custody on a $2,000 signature bond.

In a press release, Clintonville Police Chief Craig Freitag noted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,604 cases of lung injury related to vaping.

“There have been 34 deaths confirmed, as of Oct. 22, 2019,” Freitag said. “The latest national and state findings suggest vaping products containing THC, particularly those obtained off the street or from other informal sources … are linked to most of the cases and play a major role in the outbreak.”

Freitag said the Clintonville police are still investigating this matter and “more arrests are expected.”
