Manawa to stage musical

Little Wolf High School to present ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’

By Holly Neumann

Little Wolf High School will present a fall musical for the first time in more than 30 years.

Performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” are set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the high school lunchroom.

Garrett Yohr has the lead role of Charlie Brown.

Other cast members include Grace Tohm as Sally, Emma Brickey as Lucy, Tyler Thontlin as Linus, Kody Fenske as Schroeder and Becca Gehrke as Snoopy.

“As a new teacher to Manawa, I was surprised that they did not have an annual musical,” said Director Ellen Christiansen. “My previous schools found it to be a highlight of the year. There are many talented students in our LWHS music program, and they are very excited to be involved.”

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” is inspired by the Peanuts cartoon.

“Instead of an ongoing storyline, the musical is comprised of events from a day in the life of Charlie Brown,” she said. “His friends Lucy, Linus, Schroeder and his little sister Sally participate in the singing and scene work. Snoopy, Charlie Brown’s dog, also gets into the action.”

She hopes the audience enjoys the playful nature of the musical and appreciates the talents of the students, who have been working on the production since September.

“Our typical schedule was Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 p.m. until 5 p.m.,” Christiansen said. “As we moved into late October, we added in some weekend painting days and lengthened rehearsal by an hour. That doesn’t mention the hours of personal practice each student has contributed.”

Christiansen acknowledged teachers Nancy Zabler, Austin Rohan and Dan Koehler for their assistance with staging, scenery, lighting and sound, as well as Principal Dan Wolfgram for his support in launching the production.

“Thank you to the parents for sharing these talented students with the drama department,” Christiansen said. “We are looking forward to seeing the Manawa Community in our audiences.”

Tickets may be purchased at the door, with a price of $3 for adults and $1 for students.
