Woman accused of forgery

Suspect held on $5,000 cash bond

A 29-year-old woman is accused of using counterfeit money at area stores.

Police say she also used the fake bills to buy meth.

Nicole L. Russell, New London, is charged with three felony counts of forgery.

On Oct. 22, Walgreen’s contacted New London police and reported receiving $46 in fraudulent currency.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman placed the money into a prepaid account.

When Walgreens staff confronted the woman about the fake money, she allegedly denied knowing that the money was counterfeit.

She also gave another woman’s name and claimed the bills were tips from the diner where she works, the complaint says.

Staff said she stumbled over her words, and they believed she was lying.

Walgreens had photos of the unidentified suspect and of her vehicle.

On Nov. 1, Grand Chute police requested a welfare check on a young child.

When New London Officer Ryan Denu reported his findings to Grand Chute, he learned Russell was accused of passing five fake $20 bills at a Grand Chute Kwik Trip.

On Nov. 4, Russell allegedly attempted to pass counterfeit bills at Taco Bell and McDonald’s in New London.

She told investigators she used the money at local stores and restaurants. She also said she used it to buy meth, the complaint says.

She remains in custody on a $5,000 cash bond.
