It’s early in the season and the Clintonville girls’ basketball team is already one of the surprises of the North Eastern Conference.

The Truckers improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play Dec. 5 with a 70-31 win over Waupaca. The win on the Comets’ home court came two days after Clintonville handed Shawano a 73-53 loss.

Waupaca had 19 turnovers in the first half and trailed 38-8 at the break.

Viergutz led all scorers with 14 points and teammate Elly Arndt added 14. Seattle Lettau led Waupaca with 10 points.

Selina Torrez and Arndt scored 17 and 13 points for the Truckers, respectively, while Rachel Reed led Shawano with 15 points.

The Truckers will face New London Monday, Dec. 9, and return to North Eastern play Tuesday, Dec. 10, at home against Denmark.
