Drug bust in Waupaca

Suspect arrested three months after release from prison

Justin M. Baumgardt, 35, Waupaca, is charged with possession of THC with intent to deliver, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, Waupaca Police Officer Tom Grant was on patrol when he saw a truck parked outside an apartment complex on Granite Street.

The truck was registered to Baumgardt, who had an active warrant through the Department of Corrections.

Waupaca County sentenced Baumgardt to six years in state prison after convicting him for armed robbery in 2013.

He was released on extended supervision on June 19, 2018; returned to prison on March 11, 2019; then released again on Sept. 3.

After calling for backup, Grant entered the house and ordered Baumgardt out of a back bedroom.

According to the criminal complaint, Grant found LSD, narcotics and THC wax between the bed mattresses in the room where he found Baumgardt. Police also reported finding 104 grams of marijuana in Baumgardt’s truck.

Baumgardt is currently in custody and scheduled for an initial court appearance on Jan. 7.
