Inmate charged with contempt

Suspects accused of violating no-contact orders at jail

Marcus D. Watson, 22, New London, was charged Dec. 16 with contempt of court, felony bail jumping and misdemeanor bail jumping as party to a crime.

He is currently in Waupaca County jail on a $15,000 cash bond.

On Feb. 12, Watson was charged with 14 counts, including possession of methamphetamine, delivery of methamphetamine, possession of narcotics, carrying a concealed weapon, criminal damage to property and concealing stolen property and other offenses.

Judge Troy Nielsen initially set a $50,000 cash bond as a condition of Watson’s release.

Nielsen amended it to a $15,000 cash bond on March 14, but Watson remained in custody.

Conditions of his bond included that Watson have no contact with Ashley Altman, 22, Oshkosh.

Watson and Altman were living together when police executed a search warrant at their New London apartment.

She was charged with possession of meth, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a drug trafficking place and three counts of felony bail jumping.

Initially held on a $5,000 cash bond, Altman was released on May 23 after her mother co-signed an amended $5,000 signature bond.

Conditions of Altman’s bond also included that she have no contact with Watson.

Jail visit leads to charges

On Thursday, Dec. 5, Altman went to the Waupaca County jail for a scheduled visit with another inmate.

Deputy Michael Appleby was notified that Watson and Altman may be violating their bonds by seeing each other at the jail.

When he went into the visiting area, he found Watson and Altman.

According to the criminal complaint, Altman refused to identify herself to Appleby and walked out of the visiting area.

Appleby was able to identify her from Altman’s booking photos.

On Dec. 16, Nielsen heard a motion from Watson’s attorney, seeking to modify the cash bond from $15,000 to $500.

Nielsen denied the motion, and Watson remains in jail.

The incident also resulted in Altman being charged on Thursday, Dec. 19, with two counts of felony bail jumping.

Judge Vicki Clussman has authorized a warrant for Altman’s arrest.
