Defense key to Clintonville’s win

By Holly Neumann

The Clintonville Truckers girls’ basketball team picked up a 61-41 North Eastern Conference home win over Luxemburg-Casco Dec. 19.

Clintonville led 25-14 at halftime and outscored the Spartans 36-27 in the second half.

“I thought we played a tough game tonight,” coach Nick Yaeger said. “I know a lot of shots were not going in for us tonight, but the defense stepped up to the plate and played a great game.”

Erin Viergutz scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first half for the Truckers.

“Erin has been a leader this season,” Yaeger said. “She is great at scoring and getting under the hoop to get the rebounds.”

Two other Clintonville players finished in double figures. Selina Torrez ended up with 12 points, while Jordan

Lehman added 10.

Lauren Adams and Natalie Neubert led the Spartans with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Clintonville will return to action Friday, Jan. 3, as the Truckers host Freedom at 7 p.m.
