Waupaca to update comprehensive plan, zoning code

The city of Waupaca will update its comprehensive plan and zoning code in 2020.

The public is invited to a workshop being held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Danes Hall of Waupaca.

Aaron Jenson, Andrew Dane and Jeff Sanders are leading the workshop.

Jenson is the city’s administrator, Dane is the interim community and economic development director and Sanders is the zoning consultant.

The meeting will include a presentation of key demographic and economic trends impacting the city, small group exercises and a group discussion.

The objectives are to identify and understand the key challenges facing the community, as the city plans for the future.

Participants will be asked to share their hopes and concerns about about Waupaca’s future, including such issues as land use, housing development, childcare, transportation and economic development.

Using aerial maps and sticky dots, participants will also have the opportunity to identify specific areas of the city for improvement.

This may include ideas for a new trail segment or concerns about blight in their neighborhoods.

Information from the workshop will be combined with community survey and focus group results to generate goals and objectives for the city’s long-range growth and development.

Feedback from the workshop will also be used to begin the process of updating the city’s zoning code.

Danes Hall is located at 301 N. Main St., in Waupaca.
