Wrestlers place at holiday invites

Several area wrestlers placed at holiday invitationals.
Clintonville/Marion’s Caden Young returned from the Ripon Holiday Scramble with the area’s only individual championship, but others placed in their respective weight classes.
Ripon Holiday Scramble
Young won the 152-pound championship at the tournament, which also included teams from Hayward/Northwood, Markesan, Milwaukee Marshall/Carmen Northwest, Ripon, Stratford, Waukesha West, Waupun and Winnebago Lutheran Academy.
Young won his championship with a 16-1 technical fall over Markesan’s Jayden Walker. His other wins included a 17-0 technical fall over teammate Nicholas Malueg, a 19-2 technical fall over Hayward/Northwood’s Jacob Buchman and a 3-0 win over Waukesha West’s Tate Peters.
Other wrestlers placing for the Truckers included Hunter Allender, fifth (138); Michael Michonski, fifth (145); Malueg, sixth (152); Caleb Moore, sixth (170); Jetlyn Michonski, eighth (126); and Beau Tuddenham, 10th (160).
Mid-States Classic
Six wrestlers placed for Weyauwega-Fremont as the Indians tied with Dundee-Crown of Carpentersville, Illinois, for 18th place with 139 1/2 points.
Thirty-seven teams participated at the tournament, held Dec. 27-28 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Carter Greening had the highest finish for the Indians, as he placed third at 120 pounds.
Also placing for the Indians were Ben Strehlow, fifth (182); Brock Sanger, fifth (195); Max Meyerhofer, ninth (160); Skylor Maynard, 10th (220); and Clayton Fee, 11th (106).
Lourdes On the Water Classic
Wrestlers from Hortonville, Manawa and Waupaca competed at the Lourdes On the Water Classic, held Dec. 27-28 at UW-Oshkosh.
Hortonville placed 15th out of 67 teams with 153 points, while Manawa finished 23rd with 111 and Waupaca placed 38th with 72 1/2.
Wyatt Skebba and Landon Thern placed fourth for Hortonville at 106 and 160 pounds, respectively, while Jacob Collar was eighth at 152.
Manawa had a pair of fifth-place finishers in Kevin Klemm (113) and Colten Klemm (120), while Bryan Griffin placed eighth at 145.
Waupaca’s Kaleb Mannel and Colby Bernhardt placed eighth at 120 and 138, respectively.
