Clintonville estimates $58,000 in July 20 storm costs

By Bert Lehman

The city of Clintonville is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to receive funds for damage caused by thunderstorms last July 20.

City Administrator Sharon Eveland said most of the city’s costs from the storms was related to debris cleanup.

“We do have some damage that we’re claiming for the electric poles and the lines,” Eveland said. “From a facilities standpoint, we are very, very lucky. We had a couple of very minor roof dings that we didn’t even file insurance claims on just because they were so minor.”

Eveland said the amount of damage caused by the July 20 storms amounted to around $58,000.

She said the reimbursement rate between the state and federal government is 82.5%.

“Some of it is really going to depend upon what FEMA OKs,” Eveland said.

She added, “The process with FEMA, though, is that they are extremely detailed specific about what information they need and how they need it.”

The July 20 storm was the second major storm in 2019 that caused damage in the city, Eveland said.

“One of the things I want to do is put some processes in place that will facilitate something like this in the future, instead of us having to do so much of the paperwork to put it all together,” she said.

The city is currently providing FEMA with all the information that was requested.

Eveland hopes the city will know by the end of January how much FEMA funding the city will receive for that storm, if it receives any.
