Gerold Opera House hosts fundraiser concert, dinner

By Angie Landsverk

Fix the Bricks will raise funds for a restoration project at Weyauwega’s Gerold Opera House.

The event will take place there on Friday, Jan. 17.

“The Gerold needs some repairs,” said Ian Teal.

He is the executive director of Wega Arts, the organization he and Kathy Fehl started in 2007.

They bought the opera house that same year to serve as the base for Wega Arts.

Fehl is the artistic director of the nonprofit.

The fundraiser is being sponsored by Community First Credit Union, also the sponsor of Wega Arts’ 2019-20 season.

“They’re matching donations up to $5,000,” Fehl said.

Teal said people may donate up until the event.

Checks may be mailed to Wega Arts at P.O. Box 50, Weyauwega, WI 54983.

Dinner, concert

The Jan. 17 event will include a dinner buffet, cash bar, music, games and raffles.

Tickets are $65 a person for VIP seating on the dance floor with table service at tables for two, $55 for reserved seating at tables for eight and $45 for general seating in the balcony.

Corporate tables are available.

People may purchase tickets by visiting https://steem.bpt.me or calling 920-867-4888.

The ticket includes the dinner buffet and concert.

The dinner buffet will be served from 6-7:30 p.m., during the cocktail hour.

Prepared by Wega Bistro, the buffet will include Hunter’s Stew and Chicken Marbella.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

It will feature Steve March-Tormé and Michael Bailey of STEEM performing covers of songs from the ‘60s through the ‘80s.

March-Tormé is the son of the late Mel Tormé and Candy Tockstein. His stepfather was the late Hal March.

Bailey is part of the Vic Ferrari Band.

Fehl said Bailey started STEEM with March-Tormé.

Weyauwega’s Wm. Severin Thompson, who performed many times at the Gerold with his swing band, will also play with STEEM.

“We’re honored to have them in the house,” Fehl said.

Several other musicians make up STEEM.

Pegasis will be the opening act and will also back up some of STEEM’s songs, Fehl said.

The cash bar will feature specialty drinks.

Teal said one of the raffle items will be a night out in Appleton that includes dinner and a pair of tickets to see “Miss Saigon” at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.

Fix the Bricks will also have a 50/50 raffle with the Wheel of Fortune, he said.

After the fundraiser, Wega Arts is preparing for its Mardi Gras Bash with Copper Box.

Tickets are on sale for the Saturday, Feb. 15 event.

“Make it a Valentine’s Day occasion,” Fehl said.
