Open casting call on Jan. 18

TV show seeks Americans of Danish descent

An open casting call will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 in Racine, for a TV show featuring Americans with Danish ancestry.

It will be held at the Racine Civic Centre Memorial Hall, located at 72 7th St., in Racine.

O’Connor Casting Company will hold it for “The Great Danish Adventure,” a Danish reality TV show that features 10 Americans with Danish ancestry who fly to Denmark and compete in a series of challenges to win $10,000 and a meeting with long lost Danish relatives.

To be eligible, applicants must be of Danish descent, at least 18 years old and have not traveled to Denmark after the age of 15.

Chosen participants will need to be available for up to four weeks to tape in Denmark between the beginning of July to mid-August.

Casting will be nationwide.

Those interested in attending Saturday’s open casting call may reserve a VIP spot by emailing castingdenmark@gmail.

People who cannot attend can apply by filling out an application and submitting a video.

Information may be found at oconnorcasting.tv by clicking on Casting and then Casting Board.

“The Great Danish Adventure” is a show that focuses on each cast member’s journey of discovering who they are by learning about where they came from.

“Their ancestry literally comes to life on the show,” says Casting Director Joan O’Connor.

She said, “The show combines the genealogy appeal of the TV series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ and the competition excitement of ‘The Amazing Race.’ Cast members have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore Denmark in an adventurous, non-touristy way and unearth the mysteries of their family’s legacy.”

The show’s format is similar to the Norwegian Reality TV series “Alt for Norge,” for which O’Connor cast 10 seasons.

Cast members leave the show when they lose a challenge. Nobody gets voted off.

O’Connor said the producers specifically asked us to do a casting call in Racine because of the number of Danish-Americans who live there.

The series is produced by Denmark’s Snowman Productions and will air on DR TV Denmark.
