The three-point shot turned out to be an effective weapon for the Clintonville boys’ basketball team in its North Eastern Conference matchup with Waupaca.
The Truckers connected on 10 of 14 three-pointers Jan. 14 in a 60-39 home win over the Comets.
Aiden Polzin had the hot hand for the Truckers, as he made six of his seven attempts and finished with a game-high 22 points.
Meanwhile, Clintonville held Waupaca’s leading scorer, Hunter Marcom, scoreless in the first half.
Two of Polzin’s threes helped the Truckers take an early 12-2 lead. Clintonville eventually led by as many as 19 points in the first half and took a 33-18 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
A three-pointer from Nathan Morse gave Clintonville its biggest lead – 47-25 – midway through the second half.
Marcom’s three-pointer cut the lead to 49-37 lead with 6:40 remaining in the game, but the Comets never got any closer, as the Truckers ended the game with an 11-2 run.
Morse also finished in double figures for the Truckers with 17 points.
Waupaca didn’t have a player in double figures. Marcom, Alex Klemp and Aidan Charapata finished with eight points each.
