Healing Hauz opens

Weyauwega business sells CBD

By Angie Landsverk

Sue Engel and Mike Hoffman wanted to pursue a healthier, less stressful lifestyle.

The decision resulted in a career change for both of them.

Late last November, they opened the Healing Hauz at 122 E. Main St., in Weyauwega.

They sell cannabidiol (CBD) products, essential oils and more.

“It wasn’t planned,” Engel said of starting the business.

They have four children between the two of them and became empty nesters last year.

That triggered their search for a place on a lake.

After looking throughout the state, the couple found a house on White Lake.

When they left the Milwaukee suburbs last July, they intended to continue working in their fields.

That was the medical field for Engel and construction for Hoffman.

Engel’s experience using CBD products led them to start the business.

“I was on anxiety medication,” she said. “I wanted to try something more natural.”

Engel said she was diagnosed with anxiety and depression while caring for her late father.

About a year ago, she heard about CBD and decided to try it.

CBD, a natural molecule found in hemp, does not cause a high.

The 2018 Farm Bill made it legal to possess, consume and sell CBD throughout the country if its THC level is below 0.03%.

After trying one company’s product, Engel felt more relief from her anxiety and stopped taking her prescription.

Through more research, the couple learned about Wisconsin Hemp Scientific.

The business works with hemp farmers in the state and does the extracting, formulating and testing in house.

Engel said she had even better results after trying their products, which are below the 0.3% THC level.

The Healing Hauz carries Wisconsin Hemp Scientific products.

“Everything we sell here we have used ourselves and wholeheartedly believe in,” Engel said.

Among the products they sell are tinctures, lotions, topical roll-ons, body balm, lip balm, bath bombs, body butter and beard oil.

They have smokeable options as well and will carry pet treats.

“We also have products not infused with CBD,” Hoffman said. “Anything here infused will have Wisconsin Hemp Scientific.”

The Healing Hauz’s tagline is “healing the mind, body and soul.”

Classes about essential oils are offered every other week.

In their relaxation room, people may sit in a massage chair for up to 30 minutes.

The cost is $5 per session or $20 for a monthly membership.

With a membership, people may sit in the chair up to 30 minutes each day the business is open.

The Healing Hauz is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday and Monday.

They have a website and Facebook page and may be contacted at 920-862-0151.

Engel and Hoffman also started a weekly community walk.

Those who want to walk meet at the Healing Hauz at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

“In the summer, we may transition to biking,” Hoffman said. “We really want to be part of the community as well. We’re looking to be successful. In the course of being successful, we want to help the community out and be part of it.”

He said they see potential in Weyauwega.

“We want to share with the community what we’ve learned and continue to learn and the lifestyle we’re trying to live,” Hoffman said.
