Driver faces felony charges

Suspect accused of OWI hit-and-run crash

Thomas P. Christensen, 53, Clintonville, is charged with a fifth drunken driving offense, a second felony offense of taking a vehicle without consent, misdemeanor hit-and-run and operating after revocation.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, Christensen was driving a maroon 2002 Chevy pickup truck northbound on County Trunk O, south of Brandy Creek Road.

The truck crossed the center line and struck two southbound vehicles, a car and a sport utility vehicle.

Waupaca County Deputy Steven Kincaid responded to the accident.

He was told the driver left the scene without providing information or assistance, according to the criminal complaint.

Witnesses had followed the truck and pointed it out to Kincaid.

The truck had substantial damage and was missing a wheel when the deputy found it.

The pickup was not registered to Christensen, and the owner denied giving him permission to drive it.

An ambulance transported the 66-year-old female driver of the car  from the scene to a hospital.

Christensen reportedly failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breathalyzer test indicated he had a .18 blood-alcohol content.

He faces up to 12 1/2 years in prison if convicted of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and 10 years if convicted of a fifth OWI.

Christensen is currently in custody on a $5,000 cash bond.
