Manawa and Weyauwega-Fremont’s wrestling teams competed at recent Central Wisconsin Conference multi-duals.

Manawa hosted a meet that also included Almond-Bancroft/Pacelli, Amherst, Bonduel, Menominee Indian and Freedom’s junior varsity team Jan. 24, while Weyauwega-Fremont headed to Wittenberg-Birnamwood Jan. 25 to face Pittsville, Rosholt, Shiocton, Tri-County and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Manawa Multi-Dual

Manawa opened the meet with 48-36 and 39-30 wins over Menominee Indian and Freedom, respectively; fell to Amherst 45-29 and Bonduel 47-22; and wrapped up the meet with a 60-24 win over Almond-Bancroft/Pacelli.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood Multi-Dual

Weyauwega-Fremont picked up wins over Tri-County (63-18), Pittsville (45-36), Rosholt (57-21) and Shiocton (43-36) before falling to Wittenberg-Birnamwood (60-24).

The Indians raised their CWC dual meet record to 7-2, with one conference duel remaining against Amherst.

Freshman Caden Meisenhelder (152 pounds) picked up his first varsity win in a Weyauwega-Fremont singlet in the matchup against Tri-County.

Mason Marquette (145) reversed his opponent with two seconds left on the clock to win 9-8, while Danny Wilson (126) and Max Meyerhofer (160) came up with pins against Pittsville.

Ben Strehlow’s 10-8 victory over a state-ranked opponent led the Indians in the win over Rosholt.

The dual with Shiocton came down to the last match, as Meyerhofer had to dig deep to win an 14-11 decision and seal the win.

Strehlow beat another state-ranked wrestler and Weyauwega-Fremont’s Carter Greening, the states top-ranked wrestler at 120 pounds, pinned the eighth-ranked wrestler and Marquette recorded another pin.

The Indians ran out of gas against the Chargers.

Greening improved to 31-1 with a pin and Strehlow (30-4), Brock Sanger (29-5) and Skylor Maynard (22-12) also picked up wins.

Weyauwega-Fremont will close out the dual meet season Thursday and Friday, Jan. 30-31.

The Indians will travel to Amherst Jan. 30 for a 7 p.m. meet with the Falcons before heading to Appleton the following day for a 6:30 p.m. meet at Fox Valley Lutheran.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s junior varsity team will also hold its annual invitational Saturday, Feb. 1, with matches scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
