Waupaca library to screen classic movie

The Waupaca Area Public Library will show the classic 1940 film, “Abe Lincoln in Illinois,” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in the basement meeting rooms.

Dr. Jack Rhodes will introduce the movie, which is part of the library’s February Film Series of movies based on actual events in American history.

The movie has been selected for showing at this time in honor of the election of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency 160 years ago and in celebration of Lincoln’s birthday on Feb. 12, 1809.

Raymond Massey won an Oscar nomination for re-creating his stage role as Lincoln in this film. Others in the cast are Ruth Gordon as Mary Todd Lincoln and Gene Lockhart as Stephen A. Douglas, Lincoln’s principal rival in the election of 1860.

Complimentary popcorn, sodas, and theater treats will be served. The screening is free and open to the public.
