Vehicle entered open water on Wolf River
New London firefighters rescued a snowmobiler shortly before midnight Friday, Feb. 14.
Waupaca County received a 911 call from a man in distress on the Wolf River south of County Trunk X in the town of Mukwa.
Emergency workers found a man in open water, clinging to the edge of the ice.
He had been operating a snowmobile, going southbound on the river alone, when he entered the water.
Gold Cross Ambulance transported the man to ThedaCare Medical Center in New London, then a helicopter flew him to ThedaCare in Neenah.
Local authorities forwarded the incident to the state DNR for further investigation.
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office recommends staying off the Wolf River due to unstable ice conditions and areas of open water.
