Auditions for ‘Little Mermaid’

Waupaca Community Theatre to stage Disney musical

The Waupaca Community Theatre will hold auditions for its summer musical production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”

Auditions will be held from 9-5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Waupaca High School.

Those auditioning should prepare a short musical-theater song.

Based on the 1989 animated Disney film, “The Little Mermaid” is a story about Ariel, who falls in love with a human, Prince Eric. She bargains with the evil sea witch and trades her tail for legs.

The play features music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a book by Doug Wright.

Songs include “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” “She’s In Love,” “Les Poisson,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Her Voice” and “Part of Your World.”

The large cast includes Ariel, Prince Eric, Grimsby (Eric’s Guardian), King Triton, Flounder, Scuttle, Sebastian, Eels Flotsam and Jetsam, Ursula, Chef Louis, Mersisters (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella and Allana), Eric’s ship crew, seagulls, sea creatures, maids, princesses, chefs and animals.

Rehearsals will take place Monday through Thursday evenings during June and July.

Rehearsal requirements will vary depending on the role.

Performance dates are July 25, 26, 30, 31 and Aug. 1 and 2.

John Kelley will direct the show and Jessica (Fletcher) Hauser will be the assistant director.

The production will feature a full orchestra.

The Waupaca Community Theatre is a division of the Waupaca Fine Arts Festival.
