Manawa falls at sectional

Brillion wrestlers get the win

By Holly Neumann

A trip to the WIAA State Team Wrestling Meet was not in the cards this season for the Manawa wrestling team.

The Wolves came out on the short end of a 59-13 score to Brillion Feb. 18 in a Division 3 team sectional at Amherst High School.

Brillion’s quest for a trip to state also came up short, as the Lions dropped a 39-38 decision to Coleman in the final.

Coleman had advanced to the final with a 62-15 win over Amherst in the other semifinal.

Manawa’s wins came on Kevin Klemm’s 7-2 decision over Grant Geiger at 113 pounds, Colten Klemm’s 15-2 major decision over Sean McConnell (120) and Peyton Schuelke’s pin of Cole Peter (126),

Brillion’s pins came from Trenton Nicklaus over Adrin Larsen (106), Carter Stebane over Colin Moser (170), Garrett Kilgas over Kaden Kaczorowski (182) and Colin Schuman over Corey Beyer (195).

The Lions’ other wins included Garnett Stebane’s 16-0 technical fall win over Bryan Griffin (145), Karter Trace’s 4-3 decision over Bryce Bartel (152) and Sam Galoff’s decision over Andrew Elmhorst (220).

Manawa forfeited matches to Mavric Nohr (132), David Geiger (138), Damon Schmidt (160) and Emery Schuh (285).
