Truckers beat Comets

Season winding down for teams

By Greg Seubert

It was a chance for the Waupaca boys’ basketball team to pick up a late-season North Eastern Conference win.

It was also a chance for the Clintonville Truckers to keep pace with the conference’s top teams.

Aiden Polzin’s game-high 32 points helped the Truckers get a 73-58 win Feb. 18 on the Comets’ home court.

Polzin scored 11 of his team’s first 12 points as the Truckers built an early 12-2 lead.

The lead grew to as many as 19 points in the first half before the Truckers took a 39-26 into the locker room at halftime.

A 10-2 run helped Waupaca cut the lead to 49-42 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, but the Truckers responded by scoring the next 10 points and Waupaca never got any closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Hunter Marcom and Alex Klemp led Waupaca with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Cameron Mauel added 12 points for Clintonville to go with Polzin’s 32.

Both teams will close out the regular season Thursday, Feb. 27. Clintonville will head to Denmark, while the Comets will host Luxemburg-Casco.
