Clintonville ends regular season with 12-6 record

The North Eastern Conference’s top two girls’ basketball teams this season ended up sharing a conference championship.

Wrightstown and Freedom wrapped up the regular season Feb. 20 with wins over Clintonville and Little Chute, respectively.

Bridget Froehlke scored 30 points in Wrightstown’s 92-59 win over Clintonville, while Freedom outscored Little Chute 54-24.

The Truckers ended up scoring 59 points in the game. The Tigers scored that many points in the first half to take a 25-point lead at the break.

Elly Arndt and Erin Viergutz led Clintonville with 13 points.

Clintonville ended up fourth in the final North Eastern standings. Wrightstown and Freedom finished at 17-1, followed by Oconto Falls (13-5), Clintonville (12-6), Little Chute (10-8), Fox Valley Lutheran (7-11), Marinette (5-13), Denmark and Luxemburg-Casco (4-14) and Waupaca (1-17).

Clintonville received a No. 6 seed in Division 3 for the WIAA state tournament and will open the postseason at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, by hosting 11th-seeded Tomahawk.

The winner of that game will head to Wittenberg Friday, Feb. 28, for a regional semifinal against third-seeded Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
