David R. Nottleson, age 81, of Waupaca, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
He was born in Iola, WI on March 22, 1938, the son of Roy and Edith (Ernst) Nottleson. He lived on the homestead farm until joining the Air Force. On February 2, 1957, during a major snowstorm, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Paulson. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2015. Dad enjoyed hunting and working in the woods. He was a kind hearted gentle man with an easy going nature and an abundance of patience. Dad had a very close and special relationship with his grandchildren who have many wonderful memories of their time together. He didn’t show his anger much, but if he asked you, “What in the sam hill are you doing?” you knew you were in trouble. Before mom passed they enjoyed camping, hiking and canoeing in the Boundary Waters area. They both loved nature and being outdoors in the woods, watching the loons while canoeing, looking for moose and bears and listening to the wolves at night. Back home in Scandinavia, they enjoyed the deer, raccoons, opossums, birds and any other little animals that came to visit. After they moved to Waupaca, they continued to enjoy the birds that would visit their feeders and nest in their flower boxes. When dad fell and mom became sick, they moved to King where mom passed in 2015. After four and one-half years they are together again.
He will be dearly missed by son, Steve (Dorothy) Nottleson of Green Bay and daughter, Lana (Keith) Reagles of Amherst Junction. Also surviving are grandson Joe (Jackie) Giacalone and their son, Keegan; granddaughter, Jessica (Tate) Cameron; and brother, Royal (Delores) Nottleson of Wausau. David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark David Nottleson; sister, Barbara (Curt) Taylor; and wife, Rosalie.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at North New Hope Lutheran Church, 845 Cty Rd T, Town of New Hope, with Pastor Michael Peuse officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial of cremains will be in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery. The Maple Crest Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Waupaca County, the North New Hope Church Sunday School fund, or the King Veterans Chapel.
