Registered sex offender in custody on cash bond

Brett A. Wolberg, 31, Scandinavia, is charged with felony use of a computer for child sex crimes, 10 counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of failure to comply with the sex offender registry.

In December 2019, Waupaca County Detective Sgt. Tim Meyers received a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Someone was posting a vlog that allegedly targeted juveniles.

Before Meyers could view the vlog, YouTube suspended the account due to complaints.

Meyers received three additional tips reporting online misconduct by Wolberg.

On Tuesday, March 3, detectives with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Wolberg’s home in Scandinavia.

The detectives seized an iPod, cell phones, USB thumb drives and laptop computers.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators found more than 1,000 images and more than 100 videos on the iPod that primarily depicted prepubescent boys.

Several hundred videos and images were stored online in the cloud, the complaint says.

On Nov. 26, 2012, former Judge Philip Kirk placed Wolberg on five years of probation after he pleaded no contest to three counts of possession of child pornography.

Dismissed but read into the court record were 27 other counts of possession of child porn, second-degree sexual assault of a child, child enticement, child sexploitation, exposing genitals to a child, and other alleged offenses.

Kirk placed Wolberg on five years of probation, ordered him to register as a sex offender, serve six months in jail and pay $500 for each of 30 images, for a total of $15,000.

The sex registry requires offenders to report all internet identities.

In October 2019, Wolberg reported six online user names.

Investigators say more than 150 user accounts were associated with a single device.

Wolberg is currently in custody on a $10,000 cash bond.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on March 17.

Wolberg faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of using a computer for child sex crimes, and 25 years in prison if convicted of possession of child pornography.
