Closures, cancellations

Waupaca closes rec center, library

The city of Waupaca closed the public library, senior center and rec center effective Monday, March 16.

“On Sunday afternoon the CDC amended their guidance for large events and mass gatherings,” according to a press release from City Administrator Aaron Jenson. “The CDC now recommends that for the next eight weeks, organizers should consider canceling all in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.”

The Zoning Code Stakeholder Workshop scheduled for the evening of March 16 is postponed until further notice.

Over the next 48 hours the appropriate city boards, including Waupaca Common Council, will meet to discuss the timeline of these initial closures.

Mayor Brian Smith and city administration will meet with all city department Heads at 9:30 a.m. Monday to formulate a plan moving forward.

City Hall and the police department lobby will remain open until further notice.

“We ask that anyone who can conduct City Hall or police department business over the phone or through our website please consider doing so,” Jenson said.
