Schools closed indefinitely

Waupaca sets up free meals, remote learning

While educational institutions are exempt from the 10-limit rule in public buildings, Waupaca schools still limit 10 people at a time in any confined space.

When the buildings can re-open for classes remains uncertain.

“We have not heard any additional dates regarding the length of the closure of our building’s besides the governor’s announcement the other day that they are closed indefinitely,” according to Waupaca District Administrator Ron Saari. “At this time we still do not know when the buildings will be able to re-open.”

Saari said parents and students came into the buildings on Wednesday and Thursday, March 18-19, to pick up their materials and devices.

“We are currently working with families who need internet hotspots to either get a hotspot, or other options for connectivity that exist,” Saari said.

Waupaca students will begin remote learning on Monday, March 23.

“Our special education teachers and teams will be working with parents and students to provide continued services,” Saari said.

The Waupaca School District will provide free grab-and-go bags of food for 18-year-old and younger students. Both lunch and breakfast will be in the same bag.

To sign up for the meals, contact Joanne Bertram at 715-513-7053 or at [email protected].

The bagged meals will be available for pickup from Waupaca High School and the Waupaca Learning Center from 10:30 .m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, beginning Monday, March 23.

At the food pick-ups, families will be able to get food bags for each child for the weekdays. This means that families will be getting both breakfasts and lunches for Monday through Friday each week.

Quarantined families, or families without transportation, can sign up to get the meals delivered to their homes.

Waupaca School Board is scheduled to meet virtually at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 24.

Details of how people will be able to attend virtually are still being developed and will be published as soon as as possible.

Correction: Meals can be picked up Monday through Friday.
