Event rescheduled for June 13

The New London Fish and Game Club announced this week it will postpone Whopper Weekend until Saturday, June 13, due to the continued threat of the COVID-19 virus.
The event was to take place April 17-18, at Riverside Park in New London.
The Fish and Game Club had announced in late February that it was changing the format of its 42nd annual Whopper Weekend celebration.
The club planned to change the three-day event to two.
It also made changes to the types and value of raffle prizes for this year’s event.
Raffle sales began in early March.
Over $13,000 worth of prizes will be given away, including 29 larger ticket items/gift certificates for outdoor enthusiasts.
Club President Tim DeShaney said the club is working with Scheels Sporting goods to manage all prizes for the raffle.
Tickets are on sale by club members and at Festival Foods, Piggly Wiggly and the bait stand at Riverside Park boat launch through April 17.
After that, Club Director Roger Krueger says the state gaming commission will only allow ticket sales on the day of the rescheduled drawing, June 13 at Riverside Park.
He said if the pandemic has not lifted and social distancing restrictions are still in place, the club must hold the drawing via Facebook Live from its clubhouse on June 13.
“I know we’re taking a big gamble but what do you do,” said Krueger. “This is where we raise funds for all of our philanthropic activities for the year.”
The club grants thousands of dollars annually toward scholarships and projects throughout the community.
Krueger said the club is in the process of getting new posters printed for the rescheduled event.
“Stay tuned to this newspaper and the club’s Facebook page for further updates on the June 13 event,” he said.
