Drive-in Family Portraits

Photographers to be in Hinder’s parking lot

By Angie Landsverk

Local photographers Bob Adams and Chris Pruitt will hold Drive-in Family Portraits from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 19, in Waupaca.

The free event will take place at H.H. Hinder Brewing Company’s parking lot, located at 804 Churchill St.
They will take pictures of families as they sit in their vehicles.

“We’re going to be practicing extreme social distancing,” Adams said. “There will be no contact with anybody.”

People will pull into the parking lot, and either Pruitt or Adams will take their picture as the family looks out the passenger side window.

No one will get out of their vehicles.

There will be a dry erase board there with an email address on it.

Adams said they will ask each family to take a selfie of themselves and email it to that address.

That is so they will be able to match the families who participate in the event with the pictures they take.

Adams and Pruitt will edit the photos they take and email a photo to each family.

“I’d love for people to treat it like they’re going for a family photo at a studio,” said Adams.

He encourages people to dress up and have fun.

Adams explained how he came up with the idea.

He was inspired by a friend who is a photographer in Milwaukee.

Adams said his friend did this when the schools and businesses shut down there.

His friend called the event “Drive-thru Family Portraits.”

Out of respect for his friend, Adams decided to call what he and Pruitt are doing here “Drive-in Family Portraits,” changing the name just a bit.

Adams said he had the idea since seeing what his friend did.

Earlier this week, he asked Pruitt if he wanted to be part of it.

“I’ve known Chris about 10 years,” Adams said. “We’ve had a good friendship.”

Adams, pastor of Radiant Fellowship in Waupaca, has been doing amateur photography on the side for about eight years.

“I’ve been hired to do weddings, family photos, senior photos,” he said.

Pruitt is also known locally for his photography.

Adams said he did not want this to be a Radiant Fellowship event.

He wants it to be something he and Pruitt do together.

The owner of the brewery was contacted to see if they could use the parking lot for their project.

Adams said the building will be the backdrop for the photos.

The two photographers decided to hold the event now as things continue to quickly change with the COVID-19 pandemic.

They are taking the photos for free and ask people to pay it forward.

“We’re simply asking that people do something kind for someone else,” Adams said.
