Arts on the Square canceled

Waupaca’s Summer Nights concerts also nixed

The Waupaca Community Arts Board has canceled Arts on the Square and its Summer Nights concerts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arts on the Square was scheduled for Aug. 14-15, in downtown Waupaca.

The Summer Nights concerts were scheduled to take place in June through August, at South Park.

The arts board says there is the possibility of rescheduling one or two of the concerts in the fall, depending on recommendations at the time.

The board decided to cancel all its events that encourage gatherings of large people.

It made the decision in collaboration with Waupaca County, the city of Waupaca and the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce.

The arts board said it is committed to following the guidelines put forth by the state and Gov. Tony Evers in the “Badger Bounce-Back Plan.”

“For those of you who have been a part of our festival in past years, a huge thank you for your participation and support. It is with a heavy heart that we need to have the summer of 2020 go by without our concerts, and without AOTS, our annual flagship event. We strongly believe that canceling is the right thing to do,” the board said in a news release.

The board encourages people to follow its Facebook page for updates on alternative creative events planned throughout the summer that abide by the social distancing principals.
