Drug bust in Clintonville

Traffic stop leads to meth, paraphernalia charges

Lyle T. Marier, 42, Nichols, is charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Saturday, April 18, Clintonville Police Officer Andrew Kizewski was clearing a call on North Main Street when he saw a tan Chevy Malibu drive past with no registration decals.

When Kizewski ran the license plate, the registration came back as suspended due to unpaid parking tickets in Neenah.

Kizewski made a traffic stop after the vehicle turned onto State Highway 156.

Because the driver’s side tire was on the fog line, Kizewski approached the Malibu on the passenger’s side.

He asked the driver for identification.

According to the criminal complaint, the driver, later identified as Marier, pulled a locked briefcase from the back seat, held it close to his body and opened it just enough to slide in his hand as if he did not want the officer to see the contents.

The officer thought Marier appeared nervous and sweaty.

While completing the traffic ticket, Kizewski noticed Marier rise from his seat and place his hand behind his back. He had opened the briefcase.

Clintonville Officer Tyler Bartel and Marion Officer Eric Krause with his K-9 partner Kass arrived at the scene to assist with a probable cause search.

Kass alerted at the driver’s side door.

The officers searched the vehicle and reported finding beneath the center console a plastic bag with a white crystal that tested positive for meth and a digital scale with white powder residue.
