Village garage project underway

Hortonville building to house ride-share vans

By John Faucher

Concrete crews from B.G. Durite poured the floor for a new 32-by-32-by-9-foot garage building behind the Village Municipal Services Center on Tuesday, May 5.

Village board approved construction of the new garage for an estimated cost of $31,944 at its March meeting.

Village Administrator David DeTroye informed the board the intent of the project is to house the new Aging and Disability Resource ride-share vans that the village received through a grant.

The grant provided the village with two medical assist transport vans from the Outagamie County ADRC. The vans will help with transportation needs of villagers and residents of surrounding townships ages 55 or older, disabled residents and others who are without means of transportation.

A group of volunteers called Helping Hands of Hortonville will coordinate and staff the vans.

Ride coordination was set to begin earlier this spring prior to the outbreak of COVID-19.
On April 16, DeTroye informed village board members the ride-share program was on hold due to the pandemic.

He said the vans are licensed, registered, lettered and ready for use when those services are allowed to resume.

Other stored items

The new three-car garage building will also house the Administration and Department of Public Works vehicle.

DeTroye said space at the backside of the garage will allow for much needed storage of some administration building items.

He said the project would be paid for out of the future projects fund of $211,287.

DeTroye also said the village would save $7,500 to $10,000 in construction costs by having Public Works personnel construct the garage.

The garage will include insulation, heat and electrical service.
