Richard “Dick” L. Proctor, age 80 of New London, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.
Richard “Dick” Lowell Proctor was born January 15, 1940 in Ironwood, Michigan, son to the late Lowell S. and Teresa A. (Sterny) Proctor. He grew up in Bessemer, MI, and in 8th grade moved to Wausau, WI; then as a junior, moved to New London, WI. After graduation from New London High School, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Boxer, an aircraft carrier. After his honorable discharge from the military, Dick worked in Appleton at a department store, and later in Dayton, OH. He then started work for the Kimberly-Clark Corp. as a paper products salesperson which took him out east to Connecticut and New York. In 1992, Dick moved back to New London where he started D & M Wallpaper and Paint and owned and operated until recently; he never really retired. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Buschke, (nee Creech) in Waupaca on June 24, 1994. He never would want to sit down and relax; he was always on the go with gardening, woodworking, and lawn projects around the house. Dick loved to just get in the car and take a drive for day trips, sometimes for hundreds of miles; he also loved listening to jazz music. He liked to try his luck at the casinos and was a very social/active person who had a hard time slowing down.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Proctor; daughter, Melissa Proctor; sons: Scott (Gina) Proctor, Brad Proctor, and Adam (Eris) Proctor; step-daughters: Barbara (Bruce) Beyersdorf, Nancy Schley, and Ann (Bill) Nelson; step-sons: Don (Julie) Buschke, Dan (Tammy) Buschke, and Bill Buschke; grandchildren: Ian (Anita) Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, Erin Proctor, Emily Proctor, Jackson Proctor, Brielle Proctor, Trey Proctor, Eric Proctor, and David Proctor; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Major Proctor; many more step-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Proctor; a grandson, Ethan Proctor; and a step-daughter, Cindy Hedtke.
Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, a private graveside service and inurnment will take place at Union Cemetery, Symco with the Rev. Karen Riemer officiating.
