Blood drive location changed

May 20 event moved to Scandinavia

A new location has been selected for the Iola Lioness Club’s upcoming American Red Cross blood drive.

The drive will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Scandinavia Lutheran Church, 105 Church St., Scandinavia. It had originally been scheduled to be held at the Iola-Scandinavia Fitness & Aquatic Center in Iola, which is temporarily closed.

Donors are asked to enter the church through the east-side door under the overhang.

Iola Lioness Club members Sandi Moore and Louise Alsteen are coordinating the drive.

“We generally have a lot of walk-in donors in Iola,” Moore said. “However, due to COVID-19, Red Cross would really appreciate people making appointments to donate this time around. This is due to the minimum of 6 feet of separation and also to ensure that enough staff are assigned to work the drive.”

“Please wear a mask and if you do not have one, Red Cross will give you one when you get to the church,” Alsteen said. “Gloves are optional for you, but rest assured, Red Cross staffers will have gloves and masks on and will be practicing strict sanitation guidelines.”

Donors can make an appointment by download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 800-733-2767.

To save time, donors can complete and print a RapidPass online health history questionnaire online or on a smartphone before the drive. The questionnaire can be found at redcrossblood.org/rapidpass.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger have to meet certain height and weight requirements and need parental permission to donate.
