Lamers still running in Waupaca

Local bus route connects to Wausau and Milwaukee

The current pandemic has not deterred Lamers Bus Lines from operating its daily service through Waupaca.

At 9:20 a.m. seven days a week, Lamers continues to offer a through coach schedule connecting Wausau, Stevens Point, Waupaca, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Milwaukee.

According to Regional Manager Jon Evenson, the bus company has no plans to curtail service during the health emergency.

“As we understand the governor’s directives,” Evenson said, “public transportation is classified as an essential service. Passengers who have no other reliable or convenient means of getting to doctor’s appointments or travelling to care for sick relatives or getting to a court appearance can all count on us.”

He noted that passengers are also using the bus to get to their jobs or businesses during the crisis.

Speaking for Lamers management, Evenson added that “We are pleased to be providing service to our passengers who are travelling for the essential purposes identified by our governor and by the Department of Health.”

Cleanliness and passenger safety, according to Evenson, have always been goals of the Lamers system, and special protective measures have been installed to meet these goals.

“We are doing deep cleaning of our buses prior to every trip,” he said. “Lamers has always valued cleanliness, but we have doubled down on that priority this spring. In addition to the thorough procedures in our shops, we have equipped all drivers with wipes, hand sanitizers, and cleaning products for each trip. Passenger handles and grab bars are wiped down at every stop before passengers are allowed to board the coach. Social distancing guidelines are observed on all Lamers coaches.”

The daily service to Milwaukee also includes the option of a direct connection to Madison, with passengers changing to another Lamers coach in Appleton.

Once in Milwaukee, the Lamers schedule connects with both Amtrak and Greyhound for Chicago and many other locations across the country, as well as the Milwaukee Airport.

The pickup point in Waupaca is at the Waupaca Mobil Station at U.S. Highway 10 and West Fulton Street, where tickets may be purchased and more information obtained. Tickets may also be ordered online on the Lamers website at GoLamers.com.

“Lamers has been serving Wisconsin for over 75 years,” Evenson said, “and we are proud to continue to be of help to our citizens during the current crisis. We also plan to be here in the future, seven days a week, 365 days a year.”
