WHS honors Class of 2020

Waupaca plans programs for graduating seniors

District Administrator Ron Saari shared details of Waupaca High School’s plans to recognize the Class of 2020.

Saari read a memo from Waupaca High School Principal Michael Werbowsky at the board’s May 12 virtual meeting.

“Staff have worked hard to recognize our seniors while staying within the COVID – 19 Safer-At-Home guidelines and orders,” Werbowsky noted. “Waupaca High School staff members are not only proud of the accomplishments of our seniors, this year they are planning to celebrate their achievements in a variety of ways:”

• 2020 Graduate “Making History” lawn signs that highlight the senior class picture were given out to all seniors to display outside their homes.

• A Class of 2020 senior slideshow that features a senior picture, each student’s name, and their future plans. This slideshow will be displayed on a 6-foot-by-9-foot digital sign on the school campus starting on May 25.

• Just as in previous years, seniors will be honored in the Waupaca County Post in May with the senior class photos.

• The finale will be the professionally done virtual graduation ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31.

• Seniors will be recognized individually with a photo in their cap and gown.

• A 10-second video of seniors thanking those who have impacted their educational journey with a personal message.

• The graduation will also include speeches from valedictorians, salutatorian, board of education president and school administration.

• Music will be incorporated from the Waupaca High School band and choir, along with pictures of seniors involved in activities at WHS throughout the year.

• The virtual graduation ceremony will be streamed for families and the community to view.

• Seniors will also receive the recorded version of the graduation as a keepsake.

● Staff also developed the “Senior Walk” video that takes video from each grade level through graduation to share with seniors.

An “in-person” graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 is planned to take place on Sunday, Aug. 9, if the administration believes it can be done safely.

Class of 2020 valedictorians are Kendyll Eskildsen, Anya Harrington, Connor McCausland, Megan Nicewander, Anna Pulvermacher, Kyle Pulvermacher and Emma Smidt.

Autumn Heisler is Waupaca’s salutatorian.
