Marion Pond closed

Dog died after going into pond

Authorities closed the Marion Pond Friday night, June 5.

According to Marion police, a dog became ill and died Friday after being in the pond.

After consulting with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Waupaca County Health Services and the Marion municipal operations director, police posted warning signs at the pond.

Initially, they suspected blue green algae was responsible for the dog’s death.

However, no blue green algae was located and the cause of the dog’s death could not be determined.

The police forwarded samples and photos of the pond to the state.

“At this time we are going to continue leave the pond closed to the public and err on the side of caution,” according to a post on the Marion Police Department’s Facebook page.
