Two COVID-19 deaths in Waupaca

Bethany Home confirms 11 positive cases

Two Bethany Home residents died Wednesday, June 10, due to COVID-19.

In a press release Thursday, Bethany Home announced that a total of seven residents and four staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this very difficult time,” the nursing home said regarding the families of the two residents who died.

The five residents are currently in an isolated room or rooms, and staff will remain off work until they are cleared to come back.

Bethany has notified the Waupaca County Public Health Department and Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).

Bethany Home continues to follow the recommendations of the county’s Public Health Department.

All new admissions to the nursing home are suspended while it works with the Public Health Department to evaluate the situation.

The nursing home held its second round of COVID-19 testing on June 10, for all residents and staff and continues to update all residents and their families daily.

Protecting the residents and staff continues to be Bethany’s highest priority.

Daily procedures

It will proceed with daily precautionary procedures.

This includes screening logs for all staff, residents and essential visitors.

Screenings include travel and symptom-related questions as well as a temperature reading, plus oxygen saturation tests for all residents.

Any questionable travel, concerning symptoms, temperatures over 100 degrees or low oxygen saturation results triggers COVID-19 protocols.

In addition, all staff are wearing masks, safety glasses and gloves, as appropriate.

In monitored cases, staff wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, including gowns, surgical masks or N95 masks, gloves and safety glasses.

Bethany will continue regular communications with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, DHS, as well as other local health care and vendor partners.

To protect the residents, all units are under quarantine with limited staff access wearing full PPE.

Any residents who must leave their rooms for any reason also wear a mask for their protection.
