Melvin Arnold Hangartner was born on December 14, 1926 in Bowler to William and Mary (Goglin) Hangartner. He attended Silver Creek School just north of Bowler. Melvin was united in marriage on April 21, 1951 to Jean D. Hopp at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bear Creek. In 1951 the couple moved to Bowler to a dairy farm. By 1960 they moved to the Marion area where they established Hangartner Electric Motor Sales and Service. In 1970 their son Lyle took over the business and Melvin and Jean purchased a local farm. They developed it into a “farrow to finish” hog farm. Melvin liked trout fishing, being outdoors, bow hunting, cutting firewood, and playing the harmonica. Later in life, the couple even took dance lessons and really loved to Polka. His wife preceded him in death on February 9, 2015. Melvin will be remembered most as a generous and kind gentleman. Melvin was a former member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville, and a current member of St. John Lutheran Church, Marion. He was very dedicated to God and his faith.
