Mosquito Hill resumes programs

Thursday hikes set to begin July 9

Mosquito Hill Nature Center will offer summer educational programs for all ages with limits on attendance and social distancing measures in place.

A series of Thursday morning walks with a naturalist will begin from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9.

Naturalist Jessica Miller will lead a group on an easy walk through the center’s prairie planting to see monarch butterflies in their natural habitat.

Hikers will learn about the butterfly’s life cycle; their remarkable migratory trip to Mexico; and the center’s ongoing project to raise, test and release monarchs.

Nature Detectives, the July 16 walk with center director and naturalist Mike Hibbard will test hikers’ observation skills as the group solves some nature capers using clues that animals leave in the wild.

Future topics feature birds of Mosquito Hill (July 23) and frogs (July 30).

The cost is $5 for adults or $3 for students, senior citizens and Friends of Mosquito Hill.

Hibbard will also lead a night hike from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11.

Hikers will explore the nocturnal world and find out what happens after dark at the center. An easy walk suitable for all ages will follow a short indoor program.

Attendance is limited to nine people and mask use is strongly encouraged. The cost is $6 for adults or $10 per household.

Advance registration and payment are required for all programs, as the center is not able to accommodate walk-in registrations.

Call the center at 920-779-6433 to register and pay.

A complete calendar of the center’s summer events can be found at www.mosquitohill.com or on the center’s Facebook page.

The center is located two miles east of New London off of County Trunk S at N3880 Rogers Road.
