New London man builds fishing cart for youth

Twelve-year old Josh Hoier and his friends can be seen fishing almost daily at various locations around the city.

In the past, the boys would carry buckets, fishing poles and tackle boxes from their bicycles to their fishing spots.

A few weeks ago, Paul Webb of New London stopped the boys and suggested they find themselves a cart for carrying their gear.

Hoier said two weeks later while he and his friends were fishing along the back alley sea wall, Webb pulled up and delivered a custom-built fishing cart.

“We hooked it up and have been using it every day since,” said Hoier.

The cart comfortably fits six fishing rods, two buckets and a tackle box.

Hoier said the cart has been a hit with fellow anglers and onlookers.

“A lot of people say, I gotta get one of those,” Hoier said as he cast out a Wolf River Rig. “Anything that wants to bite is what I go after. But walleye are my favorite ones to catch.”
