Schreiber, Ralph R.

Ralph R. Schreiber, age 98, of Marion passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Kindred Hearts of Clintonville.

Ralph Randall Schreiber was born on August 12, 1921 in the Town of Red Springs, Shawano County, to Harry and Helen (Hoefs) Schreiber. He grew up in the Gresham / Morgan Siding area and graduated from Gresham High School. Ralph entered the U.S. Army and served from 1942 – 1945 during WWII in a Signal Corps unit stationed in Germany. In his early days, Ralph worked as a farm hand and also did logging. Then he was employed for a short time at a tool & die shop in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1966, Ralph settled in Marion and worked some time as an auto mechanic at Hofman’s Garage. Ralph was united in marriage on January 22, 1967 to Lucille E. Joslin-Salzman at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Ralph truly enjoyed working for the City of Marion for close to 20 years, retiring in 1986. During his time with the city he was able to fix just about anything and he liked visiting with folks around town. The couple was blessed with 52 years of marriage before Lucille passed away on September 26, 2019. Ralph was a Life Member of the Marion Area Historical Society, a proud member of the Marion American Legion Post and the Big Falls VFW Post. Ralph was a longtime member of the Marion Lions Club where he helped start the Kids Fishing Day program. He also enjoyed volunteering for many years with the ARC of Waupaca County at Keller’s Lake Day Camp. Ralph was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ralph’s other interests included making his famous horse radish, caramel corn, smoked fish, or venison jerky to share with family and friends. He even crocheted afghans and built bird houses for relatives and all sorts of other local area fundraising events. Ralph lived a full and colorful life; and will be remembered most for his excellent sense of humor.

Survivors include one son, Russell (Debbie) Schreiber, and a daughter-in-law, Lenore Schreiber, both of Tucson, AZ. There are three stepdaughters, Faye Johnson of Clintonville, Patrice (Gene) Ashenbrenner of Shawano, and Cally Salzman of Clintonville. There are many grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Irene Schreiber of Langlade; a dear friend, Mike Mattes of Tigerton; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, a son Ralph “Randy” Schreiber Jr., a stepson Colin Salzman; and two brothers, Lyle (Florence) Schreiber and Merton Schreiber.
