Lawson, Paul and Effie

Paul Lawson, age 90, of Weyauwega, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Bethany Home in Waupaca.

He was born on February 20, 1930 in Artemus, Kentucky, son of the late Leslie and Eva (Brown) Lawson. Paul was a devoted husband and loved his family and friends. He was a passionate, generous man who doted on babies and all his pets. Having had five daughters, he taught his girls to never think they couldn’t do something just because they were a girl. He was an electrician by trade and a jack of all trades. He was an avid sportsman, conservationist, fisherman, and inventor. His self-crafted pontoon boats were a fisherman’s delight and his snow machines inspired awe, especially when he built a snowblower out of a combine. He loved fishing with his friends and teaching people to fish, among other things. When he wasn’t out on the water fishing, he was in his shop conjuring up a remedy for an old truck or some other machine he thought could be put to better use. He was a complex man who was loved and his presence is greatly missed.

Ruby “Effie” Lawson, age 90 of Weyauwega, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Bethany Home in Waupaca.

Effie was born on June 17, 1930 to the late Ashley and Arletta (Clouse) Garland in Gray, Kentucky. Effie achieved her goal in life; she was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, and cook. Her apple pies are legendary. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing “corn bags” for her friends and family. Effie loved planting flowers and always had a vegetable garden. She was deeply involved with her church and loved music. Effie will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

Paul and Effie were married on July 19, 1948 in Lily, Kentucky. They loved a good joke, good food (especially fresh fried fish fresh from the water) and big band music.

They are survived by their children: Teri (Tim) Connelly of Dubuque, IA, Lori Lawson (Doug Stelzner) of Weyauwega and Eva (Morgan) Kranski of Neenah; six grandchildren, Sara, Molly, Sam, Jon, Adam and Joe and Effie’s twin sister, Ethel Slusher. They are further survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends. They are preceded in death by their parents, two daughters, Marcia and Lisa. Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London is serving the family. www.clinehansonfuneralhome.com

Funeral services for Effie and Paul will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Waupaca Christian Church, Waupaca with Pastor Carl Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 12 – 2 p.m.
