Grace charged with battery

Scandinavia man in custody

Christian M. Grace, 41, Scandinavia, is charged with aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and felony bail jumping.

Shortly before midnight, Aug. 23, Waupaca County Deputy Graham Barden responded to a one-ring 911 hang-up call originating from North Main Street in Scandinavia.

When Barden arrived at the home, he spoke to an 87-year-old woman who said she had been sleeping and had not made the 911 call.

After Barden left the house, he was driving south on State Highway 49, when a second call came from the same home.

The caller said a man had run out of the house, carrying a metal pipe.

Barden turned around and headed north. He saw a man walking south alongside State 49 just outside Scandinavia.

The deputy made contact with the man, who identified himself as Grace.

According to the criminal complaint, Grace said he hit his father in the head with a baseball bat.

Grace reportedly accused some people of breaking into the house, taking his girlfriend and threatening to kill her.

Barden returned to the home and spoke to the woman’s son, a 59-year-old man.

The man said he returned home from work and found Grace upstairs alone, talking to himself.

Grace allegedly threatened to kill the man, so he went back downstairs.

The complaint says Grace followed the man and struck him multiple times in the head with a small metal bat.

As Grace continued striking the man, the two struggled and fell to the floor.

Grace then fled the house.

He allegedly broke all four side windows in a car that belonged to the woman.

The man said Grace’s girlfriend had not been to their house that night.

The girlfriend also denied being at the house.

Grace is currently in custody on a $1,500 cash bond.

On Oct. 22, 2019, Grace was charged with attempted identity theft and two counts of misdemeanor theft.

He was released on a $2,000 signature bond.

On Oct. 15, 2018, Grace was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of retail theft, two counts of disorderly conduct and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping in Outagamie County.

He was placed on two years of probation.
