Iola-Scandinavia keeps Wild Rose out of end zone

An interception ended the Iola-Scandinavia football team’s first drive of the season.
The next four, however, ended in the end zone.
The Thunderbirds opened the season on a winning note Sept. 25 by handing Wild Rose a 45-0 Central Wisconsin Conference-Small defeat at Thunderbird Field.
Parker Prahl. Isaiah Hoyord and Brye Hardel had a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Prahl added a scoring pass.
Prahl opened the scoring with 6:06 remaining in the first quarter on a 2-yard quarterback keeper. Hoyord added the first of his two 8-yard scoring runs with 1:02 to go in the opening period and Prahl’s 11-yard pass to Kyle Heise with 7:08 left in the first half made it 19-0.
The T-Birds added two more scores before halftime to take a 33-0 lead over the Wildcats at the break. Prahl scored on an 11-yard run with 5:27 to go in the half and Hoyord scored from 8 yards out with 1:13 remaining.
Hardel finished a pair of scoring drives with 1-yard runs in the second half. His first score gave the T-Birds a 39-0 lead with 8:17 to go in the third quarter and he capped the T-Birds’ next drive with another touchdown with 7:74 left in the game.
The T-Birds outgained the Wildcats 378-60, including 319-25 on the ground and 59-35 through the air.
Besides keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone, Iola-Scandinavia’s defense also held the visitors to two first downs.
Iola-Scandinavia will also be home for its second game, as the T-Birds are scheduled to host Pacelli at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

Weyauwega-Fremont fell to Amherst 42-14, Manawa handed Shiocton a 28-2 defeat, Xavier topped New London 41-7, Waupaca dropped a 41-15 decision to Luxemburg-Casco, Hortonville picked up a 43-39 win over West De Pere and Southern Door beat Clintonville 44-7.
