Roe returns to jail

Police say she was arrested after stealing candy

The woman acquitted of murder in 2017 is back in custody.

Alison Roe, 48, Waupaca, is charged with felony bail jumping and misdemeanor retail theft.

On Sept. 17, Waupaca Police Officer Brent Wittman was dispatched to the Kwik Trip on West Fulton Street for a shoplifting complaint.

According to the criminal complaint, Wittman reviewed surveillance video that showed Roe select a large bag of M&Ms, walk to the bakery display, return to the candy aisle and replace the large bag with two small bags of M&Ms, which she placed in her purse.

Roe allegedly paid for other items she picked up in the store, but not for the M&Ms.

When Wittman interviewed Roe, she said she did not remember taking the candy or even eating it.

Roe reportedly said she had used meth two to four hours before going to Kwik Trip and when she uses drugs, she forgets things.

Roe’s record

Since her acquittal in January 2017 for the stabbing death of her boyfriend, Roe has been convicted in Waupaca County of possession of methamphetamine, twice for retail theft, operating with a restricted controlled substance and disorderly conduct.

In Outagamie County, Roe has been charged three times with retail theft, twice for obstructing an officer, possession of methamphetamine and felony bail jumping.

On Oct. 2, 2019, Waupaca County prosecutors charged Roe with felony bail jumping and retail theft. She was released from custody on a $2,000 signature bond with the condition that she not commit any more crimes.

On Dec. 19, 2019, Waupaca County prosecutors charged Roe with possession of methamphetamine and felony bail jumping. She was released after posting a $250 cash bond with the condition that she not commit any further crimes.

On Sept. 3, 2020, Waupaca County convicted Roe of two counts of felony bail jumping and two counts of misdemeanor theft.

Judge Raymond Huber placed Roe on three years of probation, stayed 120 days in jail that her probation agent can use, and assessed her $1,942 in restitution, fines and court costs.

Roe had been in jail on a $2,000 cash bond from the time of her arrest on June 29 until her sentencing on Sept. 3.

Two weeks later, she was back in jail on a probation hold, where she remains at this time.
