Binley, Richard Sr.

Richard Louis Binley Sr., 81 years old, of Scandinavia passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children, grandchildren, special niece Linda Tenney and great-grandchildren on Oct 15, 2020.

Born in Anamosa, IA on August 12, 1939 to the late Alfred and Frances (Bruce) Binley. He was brought on as a hired hand and helped relocate the Mathis farm from Coggon, IA to Iola, WI. He stayed on and moved to Iola in 1957. July 12, 1958 he married the love of his life, Ruth Mathis, who preceded him in death on Sept 1, 1973. They enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling to see family and spending time together. He also worked as a laborer building fiberglass truck toppers, pop-up campers, and snowmobiles in Manawa, and then moved on to build wooden furniture in Scandinavia. He loved working with his hands building things and fixing things. He did many personal woodworking projects for himself and his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reloading his own ammunition. Collecting and admiring guns and coins was another pastime. He was an avid pool player, always practicing his shots and trick shots. Shooting pool on multiple leagues was one of his favorite things to do up until last year with his failing health. He enjoyed shooting against different people and shooting on a team with his son, Tim, and grandson, Tony.

Survived by their four children: Richard (Bev) Binley of Weyauwega, Micheal (Chris) Binley of Scandinavia, Tim (Susie Burr) Binley of Waupaca and Kim (Dean) Nelson of Waupaca; grandchildren: Tony (Becca) Binley of Weyauwega, Barbara (David) Nelson of Scandinavia, Micheal (Stacy) Binley of Suffolk, VA, Joseph Nelson, Kelsey Nelson, Patrick Nelson and Samantha Nelson all of Waupaca; nine great-grandchildren; a nephew in Scandinavia and several nephews and nieces in Iowa.
